Industry Links

Currently the bulk  of commercial sapphire production is conducted by a  limited number of machinery operators mining. These miners operate in the Inverell district of northern New South Wales and Sapphire,  Rubyvale  region of Central Queensland. Recently there is also some production now coming from the Lava Plains deposit in North Queensland. The activities of the large mines is supplemented by a number of small scale hand miners and on a much smaller scale still by the activities of tourist or hobby fossickers.
